Story Time – How to Talk to Kids about Disability

Join CCDSIG for Story Time at Tredyffrin Public Library with guest speaker Christa Bialka. All ages and abilities welcome, bring your kids, bring your family and friends, even bring a neighbor! We will read a few children’s books about disability and acceptance. Christa Bialka’s talk will focus on How to Talk to Kids about Disability followed by a Q & A panel including Christa, parents, and therapists. We hope to answer all of your questions!

Story Time will be held at Tredyffrin Public Library on Saturday, September 21st from 10:00 to 11:30 am in the Tyler Hedges Room. The Tyler Hedges Room is wheelchair accessible. The cost is free. Registration is required as space is limited.

Dr. Christa S. Bialka is the Associate Professor of Special Education in the Department of Education and Counseling at Villanova University. Dr. Bialka received her M.Ed. in Moderate Special Needs Education from Boston College and her Ed.D. in Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education from the University of Pennsylvania. Her research interests include understanding the development of teacher dispositions, preparation of teachers for inclusive classrooms, and disability awareness. Dr. Bialka’s work has been published in Teacher Education and Special Education, the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education, Disability & Society, Issues in Teacher Education, the Journal of Experiential Education, Action in Teacher Education, The Journal of College and Character, and the International Journal of Inclusive Education.
